Asphalt repair fixes the spots where pavement has failed, before the damage spreads. Potholes and alligator cracking often start with water that got under the asphalt and softened the base. Trinity Paving and Concrete cuts each failed area back to solid pavement. We fix the base where it gave way, then compact new hot mix asphalt in its place.
We handle driveway repair for homes and long rural drives. Parking lot patching is part of the work too. Trinity Paving is an asphalt contractor in Dixon, and our work reaches about 40 miles around town. Call or text (707) 396-7730, and we look at the pavement and put the quote in writing.

Most potholes start at a crack or a worn spot in the surface. Rain gets in and softens the base under the asphalt. Traffic breaks the weak spot apart, and the hole keeps growing until it is fixed.
We mark a rectangle a little bigger than the damage. The edges are cut straight down, and the hole is opened until every side is solid pavement. The City of Dixon's construction specifications call for street patches cut to a neat edge, too. Water and loose debris come out, and soft base is replaced with compacted aggregate base.
A tack coat goes on the cut edges so the new asphalt bonds. Hot mix asphalt goes in next and is compacted with a slight crown, so water runs off. The seams get sealed to keep rain out of the joint.
Alligator cracking is a web of connected cracks that looks like alligator skin. It shows up in the wheel paths, where tires pass over and over. That pattern means the base is failing under the load, often because it is weak or wet. The first sign tends to be a long single crack in a wheel path, and sealing it early can help.
Caltrans guidance calls this cracking structural, and crack sealing will not treat it. Left alone, it tends to turn into potholes. An overlay laid over it cracks the same way, because the failure comes up through the new surface. So we cut the whole cracked area out and rebuild the base before new hot mix goes on.
Water is often behind it, so drainage matters as much as the patch. In this part of the Sacramento Valley, most of the year's rain falls from November through March. Sunken low spots that hold that water get cut out and paved back to the grade around them. If water keeps reaching the same spot, grading and drainage work comes first.
Patching fits when the failures sit in a few spots and the rest of the pavement is sound. A pothole or one alligator-cracked area in a solid driveway is a repair job. Lot patching can run in sections, so the rest of the lot stays open.
Damage spread across the whole surface is a different job. Past a point, an overlay can cost less than patching spot after spot. If the base is still sound, asphalt resurfacing puts that new layer down, with the failed spots patched first.
When the base has failed under most of the drive, the fix is a rebuild. For a home, that means a new asphalt driveway on a fresh base. We tell you which job fits after we see the pavement.

On a replacement, the old asphalt is torn out and hauled off first. Then the ground is graded, and base rock goes down in compacted lifts.
The hot mix asphalt is laid and rolled, or the concrete is poured and finished. Parking lots get their striping, and the site is cleaned up.

Every surface we build starts on a graded and compacted base. That base matters here: some lots around Dixon sit on clay that cracks when dry and swells when wet. The grade is shaped so water sheds off, and thickness follows the load.
